- A special fast-track court in Delhi in September 2013 had announced capital punishment for the four convicts
- Three of the convicts are housed in Tihar, while one is lodged in Mandoli
After Supreme Court verdict, the four convicts, Mukesh Singh, Vinay Sharma, Pawan Gupta, Akshay Thakur, of the Nirbhaya case will be hanged after a week. The only remedy left now is to move mercy petition before the President of India for commuting a punishment. The Tihar Jail administration sent a notice on October 29 and informed them that they have only seven days left after receiving the notice to file the mercy petition. Moreover, counsel of the convicts was informed by Tihar Jail Department on call about the development. He assured to apply the mercy plea for all one after the other.
